Claire at MBToolbox admits that her boss doesn’t know about her freelancing, her blog, or her MBToolbox gig. Uh….Wow. I’d guess it’s only a matter of time. Not like that’s a super common name or anything.

Yikes. The admission that she blogs from work makes me CRINGE. If you have enough time to blog from work, you should be taking on more responsibilities at work. Not that I want to be “The Man” here, but I do believe in the concept of time theft, and that’s a pretty ballsy admission for someone who’s relatively well known in the (not going to say it… not going to say it) blogosphere (ugh, gross). I’m not even using her last name in this post, because I don’t want any part of this potential train wreck.

I haven’t blogged from work (except for on my lunch hour, and even that’s a little dicey) since I was fired for it almost 4 years ago. My boss found out about my blog, and I wasn’t getting anywhere near the traffic that Claire gets. (OK, I’m blogging from work right now, but I already put in my 2 weeks notice, so my workload is quickly dwindling.) I do not expect to blog from work at my new job, and in fact, I doubt I’ll even use my lunch hours to blog. We’ll see how the culture is there, but I signed an agreement that said I wouldn’t do personal business on their time or equipment, and I meant it. Blogging is fun and all, but ya’ gotta pay the bills, you know?

At any rate, I hope Claire has a back-up plan, because that’s one secret that is bursting to get out into the open…
