The verdict on the year-old, basement-freezer cake: meh.

We took it up to Michigan with us and had it in the little inn that we stayed at, after a really good dinner, with a bottle of wine. The first thing we had to get past was the horrible freezer smell. Once we figured out that the smell was mostly in the wrapping material, we were a little more encouraged. As far as the cake goes, it was a little dry, and the raspberry filling was a little less tasty. Kim warned us about the frosting, but I thought the frosting was ok. I’m not a big frosting person to begin with though, so maybe I’m not the best judge.

We ended up eating about a quarter of the cake that night and left the rest at the inn. I felt a little bad wasting 3/4 of a cake, but it wasn’t really good enough to bring home. We did bring 2 bottles of wine back with us, though.

On Sunday, we walked around the Warren Dunes and watched the Bears game at a bar. Overall, a good time.
