Two houses on my street lit up their Christmas lights today. In the last two years, I have been the first person to put up Christmas lights–on the Friday after Thanksgiving. This year, at least 2 people have beat me by a week. Well, I won’t give in. Christmas season starts AFTER Thanksgiving, and I refuse to move it up. I might even wait until December to put up the lights this year, just to make a point.
On the continuum of Feelings about Christmas, I fall solidly on the “Enjoy Christmas” side, but let’s not get carried away, shall we? I mean, this is part o f the reason that some people hate Christmas… A two-month long holiday is too much for just about anyone. And what about Thanksgiving? Thanksgiving gets the short stick, which is a shame. Surely there’s a way Wal-Mart could turn Thanksgiving into a disgusting consumerist orgy, right?
