The Sun Times reports that Mark Suppelsa will be taking over nightly news anchoring duties from Watler Jacobsen. We wouldn’t go so far as to say that Jacobsen was fired for recent brushes with the law, but it seems to Geektastic that a weekly Sunday morning news show is clearly a demotion.
Our only other question is why the women news anchors always sit to the left of the men. We have never seen a male news anchor sit to the left of a woman. We think this is some kind of power conspiracy. We hope we’re wrong.
While we’re at it, we’re going to plug Anchorman the movie just because it seems timely. And also because the movie poster shows the woman on the right hand side of the anchorman.
Geektastic is linked on Centerstage Chicago’s Street Level Blog. We’re thrilled, and we’re sure the hits are going to start rolling in any minute now. At the very least, we think this means that the folks at Centerstage should publish some of our writing. If only we actually wrote stuff outside of this blog…
The Backer reports that the Cubs’ wives will be having a charity softball game against the Sox’s wives on Friday before the Cubs/Sox match up. We don’t know who any of the Sox wives are, but we know that Mrs. Kerry Wood looks sorta prissy, and we think we could totally take her in softball.
Mr. Geektastic directs us to the story about fraud in the Chicago teacher’s union election. Now they’re calling for a do-over. We’re not sure why voter fraud in Chicago is making the news, but this did remind us of our college days at Northern Illinois Univershitty where, during the four years we attended, they had to re-do the student council elections EVERY SINGLE SEMESTER. NIU does have a pretty large college of education, so it might be fair to conclude that Chicago-area teachers are a bunch of corrupt motherfuckers who don’t know how to vote. OK, maybe that wouldn’t be fair.
We also want to tell Mr. Geektastic that we’re sorry about our Christian Bale reference earlier today. He’s really not all that, and you’re probably right about him being gay.
Richard Roeper writes about some recent controversey regarding his endorsement of Fahrenheit 9/11 (scroll down). The MPAA banned Roeper’s “Everyone should see this film” blurb from ads for the movie because the movie is rated R and not everyone is allowed to see the film. Roeper doesn’t seem too upset about the controversey. Now we just wish the MPAA would ban Roeper and his partner Ebert from endorsing every single goddamn movie they ever see. (ahemGARFIELDahem)
According to this press release on yahoo, the tollway oases at O’hare and Belvidere are once again open for business. Geektastic rarely ventures out to Belvidere, but we’re pretty pumped about the O’Hare one. The new oases feature four times as many toilet stalls, which hopefully does not mean four times as many unflushed toilets and four times as much funk.
We also hope that the handicapped toilets are securely fastened to the wall because we know you’re probably tired of reading tollway bathroom posts.
Okay, this post is kind of about Jack Ryan even though we said we were done with him until the gerbil scandal breaks. Geektastic correspondent, The Backer directs us to Andrew Sullivan’s recent blog post about the Tribune and Jack Ryan. Basically, he accuses the Tribune of attacking Jack Ryan out of revenge because Ryan beat the son of the former director of the Tribune Company in the primary. Geektastic has known both liberals and conservatives to shoot themselves in the foot (after all, Sullivan *is* a gay conservative), but this seems a little far-fetched. Would Andy McKenna Junior or Senior benefit from seeing Ryan go down in flames? I mean, it’s worth a giggle or two, yes, but seeing your whole party crumble in the process? yikes.
Watch your back, New York. The new Batman movie, starring Geektastic beefcake Christian Bale is filming in CHICAGO. That’s right, we’re the new Gotham city. According to WGN Morning news this morning, the crew will shoot some scenes on Lower Wacker this summer. Geetkastic has always thought that Lower Wacker is creepy, and we would volunteer to have Christian Bale rescue us there any time. The latest Batman news can be found on batman-on-film.com, but we’re only going to warn you once to beware of the fanboys.
Terry Armour mentions Batman in Chicago in his column from June 13 (scroll all the way down). And while you’re reading Armour’s column, don’t miss Ashley Judd saying that Chicago is better than New York.
Just when you thought Sears could not possibly get any shittier, they go and buy 54 Kmart stores. This is supposed to help their image? If by “help their image” you mean “make them seem cheaper” I guess it will… We try not to be elitist here at Geektastic, but we would never step foot in a Kmart, and that goes DOUBLE for a Kmart that calls itself Sears.
The Washington Post reports that the Chicago riggers union is being investigated for mishandling pension funds. The article accuses the union of having mob ties. We have met some of the nice rigger-folks at McCormick place and found them to be nothing but charming gentlemen. And we’re TOTALLY sure that the mob tie allegations are completely unfair and unfounded. Anything bad we might have said about the riggers previously was just an unfunny joke. Like everything else on this website. Okay?
